The seat of
a recumbent bicycle is in a different
position so that the rider is in a
reclined position as they pedal. With
the seat in this position the rider’s
feet are in front of them rather than
below them as they would be with a
traditional bicycle. Often the tires of
a recumbent bicycle will be smaller than
with a traditional bicycle, although
they still need to be properly inflated
for optimal performance. While these
types of bicycle have been banned from
international racing the world record
for speed on a bicycle was made using a
recumbent bicycle.
